Cause & Effect Foundation is an early intervention service that has been helping families in their community since 1994.

Mission Statement:

Every child deserves the opportunity to develop to his/her optimal potential.

Philosophy:

To enable the child, by the time he/she reaches school age to function as independently as possible within an integrated classroom setting, the home and the community. We are dedicated to educating and supporting children and their families with respect to the specific nature and complexity of their identified and developmental disorders.

Program Objectives:

Group Activities at Cause & EffectWe service children 2.5-6 years of age, who are in need of a multi-disciplinary team. Children may be diagnosed with one or more of the following disorders: Down Syndrome or other syndromes, Cerebral Palsy, Speech and Language Delay, Global Delay, Autism Spectrum Disorders and Hearing Impaired Children.
We provide comprehensive and coordinated service delivery of direct and consultative Therapy addressing specific needs of each child. Direct therapy is direct intervention with the child while caregivers are observing. Consultative therapy includes demonstrations, instruction strategies and in home programming suggestions for care givers. Consultation is intermittent ongoing assessment, re-evaluation, strategy planning and individual program plan development.

When:

We operate our program within the school calendar year of September – June.

How:

Our service is provided by registered and certified professionals with extensive pediatric experience. We use a collaborative integrate team approach that involves the family, school and community. Service is initiated by the service coordinator who has primary contact with the family, school and medical personnel. All previous information is gathered to limit duplication of assessments and services. The therapists determined necessary for the each child’s program function together as a team. Each team of therapists provides purposeful and selective therapy strategies that are based on standardized tests and clinical observations. Assessments are presented in a report format. Documentation, noting progress and recommendation, is provided by each therapist after each visit. Interim recommendations are followed through by a Child Development Facilitator, Teacher and/or Child’s caregiver. Evaluation is continuous using an Individual Program Plan for the child.

Music

MUSIC is also an integral part of the Cause and Effect program. We are pleased to offer our children a music therapy class once a month that uses music and instruments to promote and support the goals that each child works on throughout the year. Our classes remain small in ratio to provide optimum opportunity for each child’s learning style. Our Child Development Facilitators attend these sessions with the children and the parents of each child are also invited to attend. This year we are pleased to have Sue Silverman and Rick Hertert as our two Music Specialists.

Funding:

Funding for the child’s program is primarily provided by Alberta Learning, Program Unit Funding (PUF) grants.

Resources:

Group Activities at Cause & EffectResources are also given through our Toy Equipment Library Program and the various Workshops and In-Services that are provided several times throughout the year. A quarterly NEWSLETTER keeps our families, staff and specialists in touch with all that is provided within our yearly program.
