Parent Responsibilities

Welcome to the Cause and Effect Early Intervention Program. We operate from a family-centered model and believe that the treatment process encompasses the sharing and building of trust among team members. Parents are an integral part of the Cause and Effect team as you are most familiar with your child’s ways. As we provide the specific information and strategies for your child’s development, you are the one who will help facilitate these changes. Being involved can assist you in understanding the nature and purpose of our interventions and allows you to see the direct change and progress your child is making. We are all partners in this process.

Communication and Rapport:

  • Clear and open communication is essential for this partnership to work.
  • Please contact the appropriate therapist with questions or concerns regarding any aspects of your child's program. If you are unsure who to ask, contact your coordinator.
  • You will be working closely with the child development facilitator. It is most important that you both work toward building a rapport in order to ensure treatment goes smoothly. If you have questions or concerns, please contact your coordinator.

Binders:

A communication binder will act as a daily source of information for all team members. Parents are expected to:
  • Review list of binder contents and organization.
  • Read and initial all therapist and child development facilitator notes on a daily basis.
  • Familiarize yourself with the treatment checklist and note changes.
All documentation must remain in the binder.

Treatment Program:

  • A Parent/Caregiver should be present in the home with the assistant and/or therapist at all times.
  • A Parent/Caregiver is solely responsible for all non-treatment children during treatment sessions.
  • A quiet spacious area is necessary for treatment in the home and should be available to therapists and assistants.
  • The family is encouraged to participate in treatment sessions that are scheduled through mutual agreement.
  • Treatment sessions will consist of observation, direct therapy, treatment demonstration, parent consultation, assistant consultation and documentation.
**Parents are expected to purchase materials recommended by the therapists such as: certain games or toys, books, crayons, scissors, paper, etc.

Scheduling:

  • The Parent is to notify the appropriate therapist/assistant as soon as possible of any change for any reason in the scheduled treatment time, in order to avoid treatment charges.
  • Check calendar to keep updated on all appointment times.
  • Make sure calendars reflect any vacations, medical visits, etc.
  • When your child is sick, do not send him/her to school or expect him/her to attend therapist or assistant sessions.

Meetings:

  • As a member of the team, at least one parent is expected to attend their child's Individual Program Plan meeting.
  • Inservices will be provided throughout the year on various subjects pertaining to child development and treatment disorders. You are encouraged to attend. All in-services will be marked in red in the Communication Binder.

Assistant Time Sheets and Transportation Sheets:

  • The Parent is responsible for reviewing the documents, verifying the hours and kilometers and signing the document.
