Programming Standards Review completed by Alberta Learning January 2003 Cause and Effect Foundation Early Intervention Services

Program Description:

"Cause and Effect is a comprehensive and coordinated service delivery program with direct and consultative therapy addressing the specific needs of each child. It has the status of a Designated Special Education ECS Program. Cause and Effect operates out of the High River area of Alberta, but provides programming to the Calgary, Airdrie, High River, Okotoks areas and surrounding communities.

Cause and Effect currently serves children identified with severe disabilities. The Cause & Effect disciplinary team provides intervention for children with severe disabilities in five key areas: communication skills, physical skills, emotional skills, readiness skills and social skills.

Under the direction of service coordinators/administrators there are multi-disciplinary teams. The staffing on each team includes: a special education teacher, rehab educational assistant, speech/language pathologist, occupational therapist, behavior strategist and physical therapist. In addition, Cause and Effect contracts the services of a clinical psychologist and other professional services as required.

The program is developmentally appropriate and consistent with the Kindergarten Program Statement. It is play-based, allows for child -initiated learning, addresses learner expectations across developmental domains and provides opportunity for meaningful interaction with peers."

Commendations

"Cause and Effect Early Intervention Services offers a high level of carefully planned intervention to children. The children receive developmentally appropriate instruction through one-on-one instruction, classroom activities, and home-based programming."
